Hailed from Fayetteville, North Carolina, Our Artist Spotlight recipient J Cole really hit the scene in 2007 with the release of his mixtape "The Come Up" in 2007. This was the first mixtape I was introduced to by him and instantly became a fan. Around this time, many people slept on him, however industry mogol Jay-Z got the opportunity to peep a few songs from the tape and decided he would be a good fit for Roc-Nation. Since the wake of his signing many people are starting to realize exactly how good of an artist J Cole is. His latest, "Friday Night Lights" did huge numbers online and has many people anticipating the album. He is set to go on tour with Drake in Europe sometime in 2011. Now that he has our attention, it will be interesting to see Cole really shine.
